Shinier, healthier, sexier hair… without a whole lot of effort. That’s our philosophy, and this is what we know.
1 Sleep with a plait
You’ll wake up with really sexy texture.
2 Adding highlights is a slippery slope
More than a few, and you’re fully bleaching your locks; besides the damage, you may be making yourself blonde without realising it. Keep highlights subtle and around the face, or on ends if you love a lighter look.
3 Purple tempers brassiness on blondes
So purple-tinted shampoos,, conditioners and even styling products are brilliant for blonde tresses. (And for highlighted brown hair).
4 When all else fails, a ponytail pulls your whole look together
And looks very edited on purpose!
5 Layers add volume to thin hair
Weirdly, they also help tame curly tresses that tend to dry into an unhelpful triangle shape by breaking up the form. Emphasise your layers with highlights around the face.
6 Do a DIY colour if your hair’s dark brown
At-home hair colour is an alluring option for a single, dark colour: Once you find the perfect shade, your results will be similar to what you’d get at a salon.
7 Blowdry your fringe from the sides to get it looking straight
If you come at it head-on, it ends up wonky. Keep switching sides for the best results.
8 Calm flyaways with a clean toothbrush
Spritz an unused toothbrush with hairspray and comb over stubborn strands.
9 DON’T touch frizzy hair!
If frizz is your issue, never run your fingers through your locks – at all! And avoid brushing it any more than you need to.
10 Invest in rollers if you want Bardot locks
Go for hot rollers or regular Velcro roller and a hairdryer. Either way, remember to let the rollers cool before you take them out (a cold blast from the dryer will speed things up).
11 Switch your parting for more volume
This also works if you;re fighting hair loss. And if you always wear your hair in the same way – especially if it involves pins or elastics – switch things up for an instant change.
12 Never ever, ever heat style wet hair
DON’T even think about ironing, curling or straightening soaked strands, as it’ll wreak serious damage. And wait for your hair to air-dry a bit before you blowdry.
13 Blowdry your hair upside down
This adds more volume at your roots. By the same token, blowdry it side-to-side to add volume all round.
14 Try cloth hair ties
These not only protect your hair from snagging, they also help prevent that awful dent in your hair many elastics leave.
15 When you’re showering, get your hair really wet before shampooing
The sounds ridiculously simple, but it’s actually ridiculously important! When you’re showering, make sure your hair is wet enough so that the shampoo is really able to work through your hair – and wash back out again easily. Rinse until you’re sure the shampoo is gone. This common mistake is why a lot of hair isn’t as shiny and healthy-looking as it could be.
16 Wet your hair before you go swimming
Especially in a chlorinated pool, get your hair wet with regular water first. The clean water will fill up hair cuticles, repelling the damaging chlorinated water. For extra insurance, slick on some conditioner after wetting your hair. And to be extra careful, wear a swimming cap.
17 Create volume with hair colour
This unlikely volume builder works by roughing up hair cuticles and creating body inadvertently.
18 Of all the hair colours, red hair dye fades fastest
Red dye isn’t able to penetrate hair shafts as deeply as other hues. Tinted shampoos, conditioners, and clear gloss treatments help colour to hold.
19 A messy parting hides visible roots
So does a good dry shampoo, coloured, temporary mousses and hair mascaras.
