A glass of wine is better than any other stress remedy out there. It’s over the counter, has antioxidants, and is best to consume once a day. It Sounds like my standard supplement if you ask me.
And in these more difficult times, as we going through our government-mandated quarantine, we must stock up on our important daily supplements, wine especially!
So many wineries all over the country, and all over the world, are struggling with these trying times. Many thrive on their tasting room foot traffic and restaurant/store sales. So a lot of these wineries have awesome deals like free delivery, discounted wines, BOGO, you name it. I can’t think of a better time to stock up new wines to try and old favorites!
As an in-home consumer, it’s great to taste and find which cultivars go best with the weather, the mood, and whatever meal you might have tucked away in the back of your freezer.
So here are a few of my recommendations of wines to drink away this quarantine.
Need a Pick Me Up?
I love a great Rhone-style blend. Cultivars like Cinsault, Syrah, Mouvedré and Viognier; the beginnings of a warmer and bolder wine, but never too aggressive. Something like a Kreatuur from De Kleine Wijn Koop
. This smashing blend of Syrah, Cinsault, and Mouvedré is tasty and funny!
Single l adies, this one is for you! De Kleine Wijn Koop bottles are very unique looking, and each cork is a matchmaker? Yes! These bottles actually have one-liners about single attractive men AND a phone number on every cork bottom! Right now, they’re doing free delivery, so hop into bed with a glass of SCM and onto the virtual dating scene this quarantine.
Looking for a Unique Experience?
Check out Koni Wines’ virtual tastings so you can experience the tasting room in your own home! Koni Wines
has a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot blend that is sure to soothe your senses. Koni Maliehe, the owner of Koni wines broke two stigmas when she started her high-quality winery: 1) Being a female owner and 2) Being black. Supporting quality winemakers who are making positive change is exactly where I want to spend my wine money!
Giving Back During Tough Times
You might be hoping karma is on your side during these tough times. Well, then check out Radford Dale. With their pledge of minimal intervention winemaking, integrity, sustainability and giving back to their community, these guys are the whole package. This is one of those wineries you can sink your teeth into and feel like you’re giving back by purchasing.
I always find that during times where I can afford something others can’t, I want to be buying from an organisation I can trust my Randela going somewhere that helps others. Pair their lovely Stellenbosch Syrah with that pepperoni frozen pizza in your fridge, or if you’ve got your meats for a lovely braai, this is the perfect wine too.
Enjoy these wines socially via WhatsApp Videos, FaceTime, Skype, you name it! Wine should be enjoyed with others, at least 2m apart from one another. Or virtually! So from me to you, I’m sending a virtual cheer in the hopes that you too are drinking a delicious glass of wine this evening.
