The trendy and burgeoning Rosebank precinct will become home to one of southern Africa’s most iconic local hotel brands– Southern Sun – when Tsogo Sun Hotels rebrands and refurbishes its Crowne Plaza The Rosebank property into Southern Sun Rosebank from 1 February 2020.
Ravi Nadasen, Tsogo Sun Hotels’ COO, says, “The Southern Sun brand has enormous equity that has been built over five decades and this development will allow us to expand our footprint into the Rosebank node, where we already own and operate the luxurious 54 on Bath.”
“Rosebank is booming. The opening of the Gautrain station in 2011 spurred growth into the precinct, making it a favoured destination of investors and residents with its vibrant mixed-use commercial, retail, entertainment and residential offerings.
As part of the rebranding of the hotel, it will undergo an extensive refurbishment that will include the reception and lobby areas, the Circle Bar, the Fresh Restaurant, and the opening of The Grill Jichana, based on the highly acclaimed restaurant of the same name at Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani. The Grill Jichana boasts flame-grilled premium cuts from the best local producers seasoned, infused and flavoured with tastes of the African East Coast spice route. The first phase of the refurbishment will be completed in January 2020.
The balance of the refurbishment of the hotel, including bedrooms, will take place over the course of 2020/21, with minimal disruption to hotel operations.
“The time is right for Southern Sun to add its name and well-earned reputation for excellence to the Rosebank landscape,” says Nadasen.
“The Southern Sun brand operates in 24 locations across South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, the Seychelles and the UAE and is recognised for quality and consistency. This 318-room property provides us with the perfect opportunity to take this full-service brand into Rosebank, which has great potential for business tourism, taking the property and lifestyle profile of the area into account.”
