During our recent stroll around the Silo District in Cape Town, we discovered a spot that has literally become our latest obsession, The Yard restaurant. We have been going there so often we feel it would be unfair if we didn't tell you about it. See below why we can't get over this amazing place.
The space
Depending on the mood your are in when you get to the restaurant you can decide to sit outside by what looks like a veranda, inside by the table and chairs, or by the luxurious leather couches and dinner tables. What that immediately does, for us at least is it shows the versatility of the restaurant, you don't have to feel under or over dressed because whether you are dressed for a formal dinner, a quick burger bite or just a drink and catch up of work on your laptop, you have a wide choice of where to sit, without feeling out of place.
The location of The Yard is also super perfect. Its close to the Zeitz Mocca, its below the gym and a few steps from Radisson Red hotel and also Silo Hotel. So you can have a great gym session, visit the Zeitz Mocca and do some Silo sightseeing before or after a great meal at the restaurant.
The people
If there's one thing anyone loves about going out, it's getting excellent service. How you feel about any experience, no matter how great the food or the setting is bottled down to the service you receive, and we can safely say The Yard deserves five stars plus for that. Besides being professional and polite, our waiter knew everything about not only the restaurant but the menu to the tea, down to the perfect suggestions depending what our taste buds felt like.
The food
When you are at The Yard, you literally 'get to taste the world'. Depending on what you are in the mood for you can have the finest steak in town, a burger, the finest kingklip or the best halaal-friendly dining. On their website The Yard says their goal is to take your taste experience to new heights and they do just that.
Their menu pays homage to Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Oriental and Indian influences, and we were blown away. They say a new menu is on the way and we are waiting with batted breathes to see what newer heights they will take us to.
There's more
As if it's not enough that it has one of the best menus in town with the location and views to match as well as very reasonable pricing, The Yard has urban-friendly homeware, clothing and accessories store in the mix just slightly opposite the restaurant area. And no, it's not in your face and people won't be passing by you or disturbing you as you have your meal.
The shop has a range of artisanal goods that are sourced locally. The Yard’s owner, Abigail Bisogno who has background in fashion, says the shop is a perfect fit.
'Fashion was my food, and now food is my fashion. To me, it’s a natural evolution for people to move between the two, and The Yard’s retail area is a showcase of our shared passions.'
