Volvo Car South Africa recently unveiled the highly anticipated EX90, an all-electric luxury SUV, at The Cooperage, an elegant venue at Anura Vineyards in the heart of the Cape Winelands. The evening, themed “A Luxurious Night at the Theatre,” was nothing short of spectacular, blending high fashion, star power, and the excitement of the all-new EX90.
The red carpet showcased South Africa’s most stylish personalities, each embracing the night’s opulent theme. Lifestyle and fashion influence Tshepi Vundla looked radiant and effortlessly elegant in a gold metallic gown, sculpted to perfection. The form-fitting design draped like liquid gold, while leopard print heels added an unexpected yet confident contrast, perfect for a luxurious night at the theatre.
Never one to shy away from a statement look, Lasizwe arrived in a striking custom suit that perfectly embodied his “simple era.” Opting for a balance between masculine and feminine, he paired a plain, tailored black-and-white suit with a gold-threaded sheer mesh bodysuit and matching hand gloves. The result was a bold yet refined ensemble that seamlessly blended classic tailoring with modern elegance.
“As someone who drives the EX30, seeing its big brother shows how revolutionary Volvo is in its thinking,” added the actor and media personality. “I’m excited to finally see a big-body electric whip that makes a statement while staying silent—it’s a real silent killer. The EX90 ate with both its interior and exterior! Volvo was hungry when they made this because they ate.”
Volvo ambassador and wildlife conservationist Shandor Larenty was equally impressed. “What stood out to me is how the EX90 blends power and sustainability—it’s proof that luxury and conservation can go hand-in-hand. It’s a car that respects the environment while offering an incredible driving experience.”
The legendary author and performer Gcina Mhlophe, who embodied grace and grandeur in a breathtaking ensemble, hosted the evening. Styled in a modern yet traditionally inspired look, her outfit perfectly represented the night’s fusion of heritage and contemporary luxury.
As the evening unfolded, guests were treated to a mesmerising performance by Msaki, who took the stage alongside the Candlelight Concert Orchestra. With the venue bathed in golden candlelight, Msaki’s soulful voice and the intimate ambiance created an unforgettable moment. She delivered a powerful quartet rendition of Ubomi Abumanga, adding depth and emotion to a magical evening.
The evening brought together some of South Africa’s most celebrated personalities, with Jessica Nkosi, K.O, and Khaya Dlanga among those spotted enjoying the night’s elegant atmosphere. Conversations flowed over fine wine and curated canapés, with many guests exploring the EX90 up close, admiring its refined design and cutting-edge technology.
Olympic champion Tatjana Smith, wearing a chic black ensemble, shared her thoughts on the evening and the new EX90. “The atmosphere tonight has been nothing short of breathtaking, from the setting to the performances—everything felt so immersive and elegant. The candlelit stage, the music, and the attention to detail created this feeling of stepping into another world. Seeing the EX90 up close, it’s impossible not to be drawn to its presence.”
