Valentine’s Day is here, and we’re turning up the heat with none other than Smash Afrika—the host that’s currently keeping us glued to our screens on Big Brother Mzansi season 5
We couldn't think of a better gift for you than to have him drop by, share the good vibes, and maybe give us a sneak peek into his world. Of course, as expected, he passed the vibe check with flying colors. Whether he’s hosting a live show or just enjoying some down time, he keeps things real, authentic, and full of energy.
Glamour: Hosting Big Brother Mzansi is no small feat! How has the experience been so far, and what's been the biggest surprise about the job? What's your most memorable moment from this season that had you laughing out loud or just in awe?
Smash Afrika: The experience has been amazing; the biggest surprise is how big the show is and how every live eviction show feels different. The most memorable moment so far in the season is the triple eviction and, on launch night, Big Brother's last-minute surprise housemates.
Glamour: Man Candy is no small honor! What’s your reaction to being selected? Does this come with any added pressure? How do you keep up with all the charm and swagger that clearly got you this title?
Smash Afrika: My reaction: Haha, I love compliments. Thank you. Being sweet comes with a lot of pressure. Ask one housemate in the house, just playing. It's all about keeping it 100: the energy, authenticity, and charisma that got me the nod- oh, and my sense of humour.
Glamour: If you had to describe your personality in three words, what would they be and why? We know you're the host with the most, but when you're not on camera, how do you unwind and just be you?
Smash Afrika: Insane, Unhinged, and Expressive.
I play golf, that's it.
Glamour: We have to ask: Are you single and ready to mingle, or is your heart already taken? If you are single, what’s the best way to grab your attention? Are you more of a "love at first sight" person or do you prefer the slow burn?
Smash Afrika: Yes, I am single, and I'm not ready to mingle. Sorry, ladies, maybe after season 5 of Big Brother. Honestly, I like both ideas. Love at first sight if you are sober. lol. If it's a slow burner, then the heat should be mid to low. Imagine a high-heat, slow-burner! DISASTER
Glamour: Do you have any special plans for Valentine’s Day? Or is it just another day for you? What’s your ideal Valentine’s Day experience — a romantic dinner, adventure date, or something else entirely?
Smash Afrika: Give me zero, ma'am; you can mark it as absent for this year's one.
In the future, I will go on an adventure.
Glamour: Now, let’s talk “types”! Do you have a specific type, or are you open to being surprised by someone who doesn't quite fit the mold? In your opinion, what makes someone stand out and catch your eye?
I don't know my type yet. What makes someone stand out is their humility, confidence, and brains.
Glamour: How would you say this current season of Big Brother Mzansi compares to past seasons in terms of the energy and the housemates? Are there any standout personalities this year?
Smash Afrika: This season is fire, its all in the theme. I'm enjoying Nsuku, Nate, Swiss and Uyanda at the moment.
Glamour: You've seen it all in the Big Brother house. What moments or plot twists can viewers expect this season that are going to have everyone talking?
Smash Afrika: With the recent evictions, we can all agree that watching the show live is the best thing we can all do. I don't have the scoop, but it's available on channel 198. 24/7
Glamour: You've clearly been bringing the heat at the live shows. What's your approach to ensuring that you always rise to the occasion?
Smash Afrika: I put in the effort not to fall into the complacency bag, and I follow the show. I'm invested. A bonus for me is the Live show team and the content team. They have made my work so effortless. I'm grateful for them.
Glamour: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about the housemates this season that even you didn’t expect as a host?
Smash Afrika: LOL, too soon to say.
Glamour: What's making you think and reflect at the moment? And who's on your radar?
Smash Afrika: The bible and my life.
I am on my radar.
I want to be a multimillionaire by the end of 2025.
