This month, South Africa and the rest of the world will be introduced to the new Netflix original series, Miseducation.
A uniquely South African tale, Miseducation is a coming-of-age comedy-drama which follows the trials and tribulations of Mbali Hadebe, played by Buntu Petse, whose life is turned upside down when her mother, a prominent South African Government Minister, is exposed as being a corrupt politician.
A usually self-absorbed popular princess, Mbali quickly becomes a social outcast, facing judgement and scrutiny from her peers.
To get away from the drama, Mbali abandons her glossy, big city life in Johannesburg in search of a fresh start in the small, sleepy town of Makhanda. Here, what looks like a new beginning, rapidly turns into a web of corruption and varsity politics as she attempts to get close to her new campus crush.
A tale of youthful lust, angst, and convoluted social dynamics, Miseducation introduces a range of compelling and archetypal characters.
Below, meet the cast - and Mbali’s new Varsity class - of Miseducation.
A gripping tale if ever there was one, Miseducation launches on Netflix on 15 September 2023.
