Festival favourite

Following the continued success of the Essence Festival in New Orleans, South Africa is finally getting a taste of the all-encompassing lifestyle event! The inaugural Essence Festival Durban will take place from 8 to 13 November at the Durban ICC and the Moses Mabhida Stadium. A long list of international and local talents are set to hit the stage, including Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Ne-Yo, American gospel star Yolanda Adams, and Nigerian performer Wizkid. Our very own Black Coffee, AKA and Cassper Nyovest are also set to perform. A beauty and style expo showcasing work from across the continent will also be part of the experience. See essence.com for more details.

Make a difference

On 20 November in Durban and 26 November in Joburg, thousands of people will unite for the 1st for Women Sisters with Blisters protest walks. The protest is in aid of two organisations that make an active and practical difference to the lives of those affected by abuse – Men and Women against Child Abuse and the Centre for Community Justice and Development. You can join the movement by participating in the 5km walk. Dress up, step out, speak out and inspire victims of abuse to change their lives for the better. Tickets can be purchased via sisterswithblisters.co.za.

Chilled vibes

Capetonian singer-songwriter Amy Tjasink will be performing at one of the upcoming Café Roux sessions on 16 November from 7 to 10pm. Expect some good country rock and pop tunes, with Amy’s full band supporting her stunning vocals in what promises to be a fantastic experience. Tickets are R100 per person and available through Webtickets. Head to the Café Roux sessions website for more information.

This is evian’s ninth collaboration, having previously worked with a range of different designer labels, such as Kenzo, Issey Miyake, Paul Smith and Jean-Paul Gaultier. Pursuit of happiness

The bright, bold and beautiful Swedish sock manufacturer Happy Socks introduces a series of collaborations featuring our very own local talent! The “Local Hero” campaign presents well-established local figures, such as artists, designers, illustrators, fashion brands, musicians or even restauranteurs, that are chosen from 16 different markets to custom design their own range of Happy Socks. Graffiti artist, Falko One, is representing SA. You can see more by heading to happysocks.com.

Step it up in style

Rock ‘n roll, baby!

Get together for some old school fun as you rock out at the Dusty Rebels & The Bombshells Lifestyle

Festival! This year’s event is themed around its title, Rockin’ & Riding. As the name suggests, expect a family-friendly celebration of fashion, food, music, cars, motorcycles and sports from the golden age of Americana and social culture, to be held at the Cape Town Ostrich Ranch on 12 November. Buy tickets by visiting dustyrebelsandthebombshells.co.za or head to Rockin’ & Riding 2016’s Facebook page.

Skinspiration

The fascinating Dr Judey is hosting a skin care talk with free treatments on 10 November. If you suffer from psoriasis, eczema or if you just want to learn more about giving your skin the love it deserves, this is where you should be! The talk is taking place from 6pm at the Alphen Community Hall, opposite Constantia Village. Find more information here.

Party in a punch

Despite what its name may suggest,

is anything but tiny – at least where its offerings are concerned. The festival takes place in a forest just 40 minutes outside of Cape Town, where it showcases musicians, DJs, chefs, winemakers, designers and artists who’ve made waves this past year. On 28 January 2017, a small group of festival-goers will be treated to a 24-hour explosion of creativity, so book your tickets now if you don’t want to miss this unique experience. See littlegig.co.za for all the deets.
