The corona sunset festival scheduled for later this month has been cancelled due to the ongoing scare of the coronavirus.
“In light of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s COVID-19 address on Sunday, Corona and the Corona Sunsets Festival organisers have postponed the March 2020 Cape Town event to protect the wellbeing of the festival attendees,” said a statement on Monday.
The Cape Town festival was scheduled for Saturday 28 March but will now move to a later date in 2020, and all tickets will be valid for that festival said the organisers.
The statement indicated that there will be a refund system for ticket holders and more information on that policy will be shared once it has been confirmed.
“Due to the calendars of the artists, the line-up may be different from what was planned for March, but it will still be of the quality you have come to expect and love. Corona would like to express our continued commitment to providing South Africans with the ultimate sunset entertainment, in the safest manner possible at this trying time,” the statement said.
This came after President Ramaphosa on Sunday said that gatherings of more than 100 people are not permitted.
Several other events that have been cancelled include the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, the University of Cape Town graduation ceremony, and the World Football Summit (WFS) Africa as well as the Bushfire Festival.
As it stands, there are more than 180 000 cases worldwide and so far, there were more than 7000 deaths, according to the Guardian newspaper.
