Pantone, the world’s leading experts when it comes to colour, revealed 2022’s Colour of the Year - and it’s a brand new cool shade of blue, more specifically referred to as ‘Very Peri’.
PANTONE colour no. 17-3938 combines what they would describe as a “dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet-red undertone.”
2021 was the year where we were gifted with not one but two colours of the year from the house of hues, however this year stands out in that it’s the very first time the institute has created a new tone all together.
“As we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of trusted and beloved blue colour family, encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time with it’s violet red undertone, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages creativity and imaginative expressions,” says Leatrice Eisman, Executive Director of the PANTONE Color Institute.
This tone represents the transformative time we’re currently faced with, illustrating the emergence from isolation, reflecting liberation and creativity that a digital space gives us.
Not only is this tone a perfection reflection of Gen Z, gaming and the digital space but it is also deep rooted in the world of wellness and holistic healing with lilac, periwinkle and lavender speaking to our senses of calm and serenity.
“The Pantone Colour of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that colour can hope to answer,” Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Colour Institute, said in a press release.
“Blending the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red, this happiest and warmest of all the blue hues introduces an empowering mix of newness,” she stated.
Love it or hate it, we can't deny the joyful vibrancy and much-needed optimism this colour will bring into your home, wardrobe, beauty routine, and so much more.
