The famed L’Ormarins Kings Plate returns at the Kenilworth Racecourse this Saturday, 7 January, for a day to celebrate horses and fashion.
In addition to an exciting lineup of races, including the second running of the Okapi Ladies International - the L’Ormarins Kings Plate also includes the Best Dressed competitions.
This year the judging is facilitated by Merchants on Long, who has invited internationally acclaimed designers Thebe Magugu and Sindiso Khumalo to judge the competition.
The three categories for the prize, include Best Dressed Lady, Best Dressed Man, and Best Hat/ Fascinator, and guests are judged for their elegant turnout in the LKP colours of blue and white.
Beyond lending their discerning eye to the competitions, two of Africa’s top designers, Sindiso and Thebe will also add a distinctly ‘local’ flavor to the proceedings. Further, Okapi, the luxury leather brand, has collaborated with the Johannesburg based hat maker, Lyndon Miller Pegs to create a collection of headwear designed for the race.
Inspired by previous winning horses, the collection includes porcelain, feather and leather detailing. The L’Ormarins Kings Plate is the most esteemed horse race in South Africa, with the best jockeys from across the country competing for the title of the 163rd winner and a prize of just under R2 million.
