We meet the man behind THAT mandarin orange dress of our September cover star, Minnie Dlamini.
Warrick Gautier has been designing gowns for some of SA’s leading ladies for over 20 years. With a signature style that fuses feminine and masculine lines seamlessly, his career has seen him live and work in Paris for some of the world’s most luxurious fashion houses and now at the helm of his own label based in Cape Town. Ladies, meet Warrick Gautier!
Tell us about Minnie’s dress.
Minnie’s dress is a simple silk satin bias cut slip, a key essential for any glamour girl. It’s perfect for Minnie because the colour of the slip is so complementary for her skin tone, and allows her beauty to radiate.
Which other celebrities have you dressed?
I’ve dressed Lee-Ann Liebenberg, Pearl Modiadie Jeannie D, Lady Kitty Spencer, Bonang Matheba, Nomzamo Mbatha and Tatum Keshwar, to mention a few… The list goes on…
Who is the one lady you would love to dress?
There are so many beautiful woman I would, however, love to dress Keira Knightly, Iman and Kate Moss.

Looks for spring that you’re loving?
My favourite looks for spring are hot, sexy, polished royalty in retro-Saint-Tropez!
Earliest fashion memory?
Having my own tailor make my clothes for me at a very young age.
Favourite fashion capital?
My heart belongs to Paris! Art and fashion are woven into the city’s DNA.
The fashion era you wish you could relive?
The fashion eras close to my heart and continual influences in my work are the18th century and 1970’s. In both there was an exuberance and love of life, art, beauty, craft and romance. They were each in their own way very modern, very progressive and timeless, and their music art and fashion were made in the most refined way.
