After a two-year hiatus, the prestigious horsing racing event, the Durban July, is back and the anticipation is at an all time high. One of the exciting announcements made recently was the lifting of the rule of wearing masks.
Now we can all show up and show off without the dreaded face covering. But if you still prefer wearing one, make it fashion darling!
If you are unsure of what to wear, we’ve come up with a few do’s and don’ts to make sure you’re ready to POSE.
INTERPRET THE THEME
Always stick to the theme but find inventive ways to interpret it. The key is to make it authentic to you. Having fun with fashion is a key element.
This years theme is “SHOW ME THE HONEY”. Think shades of gold and warm yellows and add colours that compliment these. Think flowers, as a print or appliqué.
BRING THE DRAMA!
Don’t rock up in a basic outfit. Make sure you come to slay. Think of Schiaparelli that absolutely owned fashion week with his exquisite Haute Couture pieces that were over the top dramatic and had us all swooning. We know, we know! we can’t afford the pieces but we can certainly take inspiration from it.
SHOES
The shoes you wear are essential as the event takes place on the grass. Obvious shoe choice would be a wedge but unfortunately we would not recommend it for this season. To be on trend we would suggest wearing a platform heel which will give you more support and comfort. Think Valentino and the House of Versace shoe trends for inspiration.
MAKEUP
When it comes to your makeup, a dramatic eye is always a win. Add a glossy or nude lip as a more dramatic lip could make you look more clownish than fashion! No one wants that.
FINAL TAKEAWAY...
Our last bit of advice is to have fun! Bet on your favourite horse and drink champagne all while looking fabulous!
