Zendaya Coleman is to star in Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man reboot.
The 19-year-old actress is said to have landed a “key role” in the as-yet untitled movie, which will see Tom Holland portray Peter Parker/ Spider-Man and be directed by Jon Watts.
According to Deadline, Zendaya looks set to portray a character called Michelle, but it’s not known if she will be romantically involved with Spidey.
The website said: “Nobody is providing details on whether this is the romantic lead opposite Peter Parker, but it doesn’t sound like it.”
What’s more, insiders told Variety that Zendaya had signed up to the movie, but insisted the star’s character “is neither Parker’s love interest nor a lead role”.
But the singer is expected to have a “bigger part” in further installments.
Zendaya rose to prominence after landing the lead role of Rocky Blue in the Disney Channel TV series ‘Shake It Up’ in 2010.
The Spider-Man role will be her first huge movie on the big screen after previously voicing a character in straight-to-DVD film ‘Super Buddies’ in 2013, and starring as herself in short film ‘Close Up’ last year.
Holland will make his debut as the superhero in the Joe and Anthony Russo-helmed ‘Captain America: Civil War’, which is produced by Marvel president Kevin Feige and set to drop in April in the UK.
The as-yet untitled Spider-Man movie is slated to be released on July 7, 2017.
