Megan Thee Stallion is moving from heating up the charts to heating up the silver screen. On February 17, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Hip-Hop's favorite Hot Girl will be starring in entertainment company A24's first-ever movie musical.
The comedy musical is titled F*cking Identical Twins and is described as a “subversive spin on The Parent Trap" — you can probably guess the rating. (Spoiler: it's not G.)
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the film follows “two business adversaries who realise they’re identical twin brothers and decide to switch places in order to reunite their divorced parents and become a family again.” Marius de Vries, who has worked on La La Land and Moulin Rouge, has been tapped as executive music producer for the film. Megan's co-stars will include Parks and Recreation's Megan Mullally, Saturday Night Live's Bowen Yang, and Broadway legend Nathan Lane.
Though Megan Thee Stallion has a few small acting credits to her name — her 2022 Flamin' Hot Cheetos Superbowl ad and her guest appearance on a 2020 episode of NBC's Good Girls — this is her first feature film role to date. The rapper took to Instagram to excitedly share the news of her casting, posting a screenshot of The Hollywood Reporter's announcement.
“HOTTIES THIS IS OUR FIRST MOVIEEEE/ MUSICAL! WITH SOME MOVIE LEGENDS,” Megan wrote in all caps. “I'm so excited I feel so blessed I feel anxious lol I feel a bunch of sh*t,” she continued, adding a laughing emoji. “I really have been quietly putting in this work and I just can't wait for the hotties to see everything.”
The news comes only a few days before the premiere of Megan's pet-themed reality Snapchat series Off Thee Leash With Megan Thee Stallion on February 19.
Megan has been more than vocal about her desire to break into the film side of the entertainment industry, even telling Vogue in 2019 that she was in the process of writing a horror movie. In December 2021, Megan signed an exclusive first-look deal with Netflix. As reported by Variety, the partnership means “the musician will create and executive produce content, including television series and other projects, for Netflix.”
“I’ve always had a passion for telling creative and entertaining stories, so I’m thrilled about this partnership with Netflix,” Megan had offered to Variety in a statement about her Netflix deal. “Venturing into production is the next step in my journey as an entrepreneur and I can’t wait to bring all my ideas to life and for my Hotties to watch.”
Looks like Megan is slowly building a storytelling empire. We can't wait to see her flaunt those acting skills!
