Gezelle Magerman is a one of SA’s rising stars and it’s not difficult to see why: she’s determined, focused and above all humble. So, what inspires the 18 year old to for gold…
GLAMOUR: What drives you to succeed?
Gezelle: I’ve always had the desire to do my best in everything that I do – I guess I’m a really competitive person.
GLAMOUR: What makes you feel like a strong, GLAMOURous woman in your day-to-day life?
Gezelle: I feel really comfortable with myself and I know my role and place in the world. I believe that no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
GLAMOUR: Who is your woman of the year? Why?
Gezelle: I have to say my mother. She is a strong and independent woman who really supports me with almost everything. Her favourite quote is, ”Be the woman you want your children to grow up to be.”
GLAMOUR: What’s the best career advice that you’ve ever received?
Gezelle: Know your strengths and weaknesses and once you have decided on a direction, keep focus and be determined to reach your goal.
GLAMOUR: What was the defining moment in your career?
Gezelle: The moment that I crossed the finish line and won the gold medal for South Africa in the 400m hurdles at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.
