They don’t call her the “Hostess with the Mostess” for nothing. Over the weekend, GLAMOUR cover star, Bonang Matheba returned to her rightful place on the Miss SA stage as the MC for the evening.
Now in its 65th year, the 2023 Miss SA pageant took place at the Sun Bet Arena in Pretoria on Sunday.
This is the third time Queen B has hosted the event, and naturally, she was dressed the part. Bonang is renowned for her extravagant outfit changes on stage, with many viewers even pushing for her to be crowned.
Ahead of the event, the B’Dazeled star set our anticipation sky high as she revealed she spent approximately R60 000 on her opening dress for the evening.
Based on the pictures posted on Instagram so far, she definitely did not disappoint. Here are some of the phenomenal looks Bonang rocked on the Miss SA stage.
For her first look, Bonang channelled her inner Barbie wearing an a structured creation by Nigerian designer Veeka James. The full length, cerise pink number resembled a flower that wrapped around her to reveal an ornate diamond bodice which fit her like a glove. She kept her hair simple in a slicked back ponytail accompanied by flushed pink makeup and round drop earings. Safe to say, she took our breath away.
Her second look of the evening was an asymmetrical all-white ensemble. Custom made by designer Ann Cranberry, the gown was an ode to a 70s disco aesthetic, highlighted by her thigh high white boots which finished off the look. Again, she kept her hair simple in low ponytail and accesorised with minimal silver jewellery.
Lastly, her fourth look was a showstopper number by designer Biji La Maison. Bonang looked every bit a goddess of the sea in this metallic grey gown. An organza train and dramatic sleeve wrapped around her body while intricate beadwork and cutout details made elevated this dress to new heights. She finished off the look with chunky gold bracelets, Bottega Veneta drop earings and an edgy wrapped ponytail.
