Bust out the glittery eyeshadow! Maddy and the gang are back for Euphoria season 2.
After much anticipation, multiple delays due to Covid-19, and a suspense-filled trailer which dropped last month, we finally get to see the aftermath of season 1’s finale: Rue’s relapse, Kat leaving for the city, Ethan and Kat getting together, and Cassie seeking out and abortion.
Season 2, which premiered last night on Sunday 9 January, promises Rue entering a Narcotics Anonymous meeting and professing her love for Jules, Maddy considering pregnancy, Cassie having a bathroom meltdown, and what looks to be disastrous New Year’s eve party (if the trailer is anything to go by).
The debut season, which premiered in 2019, quickly became known for its heavy storylines relating to themes of underage sex, substance abuse, statutory rape and violence.
Hours before last night’s premier, Zendaya took to Instagram to pass a message on to fans, reminding them of the series’ dark content.
"I know I've said this before, but I do want to reiterate to everyone that Euphoria is for mature audiences," she wrote. "This season, maybe even more so than the last, is deeply emotional and deals with subject matter that can be triggering and difficult to watch. Please only watch it if you feel comfortable. Take care of yourself and know that either way you are still loved and I can still feel your support. All my love, Daya."
In 2020, the actress made history when she won her first Emmy for her portrayal of Rue - a highschool student who battles drug addiction and depression.
