Annie Macaulay-Idibia is an actress, model and businesswoman. Hailing from Lagos, Nigeria, she started acting as a young girl and now, is the cover star of Glamour’s latest print magazine. With this being the ‘Entertainment Issue’, Annie is the perfect face for the theme. She is a breakout star on the upcoming reality series Young, Famous, & African and on the brink of catapulting her career to a global stage.
“A strong African Queen” is just one way in which she describes herself but there are many other reasons why we love her.
Here are 5 reason we can’t get enough of Annie Macaulay-Idibia:
She stars in Netflix’s first-ever African reality show
Young, Famous, & African follows an all-star cast in the fashion, music and media industry as they navigate life, love, and their careers. Annie is one of the stars on the show and gives us a glimpse into her personal life as well as her relationship with her husband 2Baba. On her time on the show, Annie says she is “humbled and grateful for the opportunity” and that authenticity was her key quality. “There’s no hiding anything with me. I’m like see-through glass.” she says. We can’t wait to see her on screen!
She’s proud of her Nigerian roots
Annie says her time on the show will put Nigeria on the map. “Nigeria is vast and blessed with many talented people, so it’s a big deal they chose me over any other female celebrity in the country,” she says. Although she knows she is a household name in her country, she aims to sell herself - and Nigeria - to the international stage.
She’s a super mom
Her Instagram bio says she’s a “SuperMom”, something she describes as her “real life role.” She says her husband and her children are her safe space, and being away from them while filming was the hardest part of being on the show. However, all her sacrifices have come with success, and she is inspiring working moms all over the continent.
She’s ambitious
Annie’s hunger and drive is admirable and motivating. She knows who she is and uses her humble beginnings as a tool to push even harder in life. “I wasn’t raised with a silver spoon, but now, please let me brag a little - my name opens doors; you can’t talk about the entertainment industry in Nigeria without mentioning me. I’m a brand.” We love that for her.
She’s experimental with her style
Just one look through her Instagram and you’ll see she loves a standout look. A pop of colour or bold print are staple features in her everyday outfits, and her Glamour cover shoot was no different. Green-tinted hair, ruffles, chains and athleisure-as-outerwear featured in the creative ensembles - and Annie slayed every single one of them.
