Amid a sea of smooth, poreless skin scattered down our feeds, and sharp cut-creases that give knives a run for their money – social media’s latest trend, ‘Instagram vs Real Life’ has officially put to bed rumours that our favourite Instagram makeup artistry is created on Photoshop.
The photos, being posted by some of our fave internet makeup artists, created by vlogger Dominic Porras, is simple: you create an extra AF makeup look on a small section of your face and leave the rest natural.
But plot twist: in the area you have your smoky eye extravaganza happening, you decorate the outside to look like an Instagram border, AKA a selfie inside another selfie.
Selfie-ception.

The point? To prove that the amazing and colourful looks you see on your feed usually involve more than rushing because you’re late and snapping a quick photo on the way.
It often includes staying up all night surrounded by a posse of ring lights taking hundreds of copies of photos then sitting and picking between them (even though they all look exactly the same).
Even though we can take from their millions of followers that these people are super talented, Instagram can often leave you with super low self-esteem, so any trend that debunks the myths surrounding the easiness of posting a photo online we’re here for.
