Popstar, outspoken activist and all-around badass, Cardi B is slaying showbiz right now.
As well as wowing the fashion industry with her punchy sartorial choices, Cardi B has also caught the attention of the beauty world. In fact, Tom Ford is so enamoured with the singer that he released a lipstick in her honour – and it sold out in less than a day.
Keen to delve into Cardi’s beauty regime, we grilled her makeup artist, Erika La Pearl, on exactly what skincare secrets Cardi swears by and what’s inside her makeup bag.
How do you prep Cardi’s skin?
Prepping your skin before you apply your makeup is vital. It is the first step in achieving that dreamy complexion. To prep Cardi B’s skin, I use Stacked Skincare’s Dermaplaning tool. This is used to smooth out and brighten the skin. I also use Ole Henriksen’s Banana Bright Eye Cream, C-Rush Brightening Moisturizer and Balance It All Toner. Once those are applied, I proceed with the primer. For this, I use Dr Lancer’s Pro Filter Pore Perfecting Primer to fill in the pore lines and give a smooth surface before I apply the foundation.
Do you perform any facial massage?
When applying the moisturiser, I try and massage the face. This keeps the face relaxed and looking younger.
Run us through Cardi’s makeup regime and which products you use…
I use the EX1 Cosmetics Invisiwear Liquid Foundation in Shade 8.0. For concealer, I like to use the Delete Fluide Concealer in shade 4.0 to illuminate the eye area. To give Cardi a natural glow, I sweep the EX1 blusher in “Pretty in Peach” on her cheekbones, and then to complete the look, I use EX1 Cosmetics Invisiwear Compact Powder in shade 6.0 to set the makeup in place.
What’s your no.1 foundation hack?
If I had to choose, it would be EX1 Cosmetics Invisiwear in Shade 8.0 foundation. It’s Cardi’s perfect match and it goes on smoothly while blending seamlessly into the skin.
What foundation mistake are we all making and how can we rectify it?
Try to stick to silicone base primers, if you use a primer. Also when applying foundation, it is always better to use sponges. It helps to smooth and fill in the pores.
What’s your hack for colour matching foundation?
I find that looking at the colour of your chest instead of your face will help you find a better colour match for foundation.
We’ll certainly be taking note.
