Oils are trending in such a big way that you’d think you don’t need any other skincare. Oils are hydrating and nourishing and give your skin a gorgeous glow. But where does that leave serums? Should you be using both?
The case for serums
Serums are often water-based, containing vitamins and antioxidants. They are chemically formulated with smaller molecules to penetrate deep into your skin. They tackle a range of issues from lines to pigmentation, and because of their small molecules deliver the active ingredients deeper into your skin. You apply two to three drops after cleansing but before your moisturiser.
The case for oils
Oils are often make up of a blend of oils, sometimes including essential oils which are rapidly absorbed into the skin. You also only need two to three drops on a clean face, twice a day. The are super nourishing and leave your skin feel plumped and glowing. Apply your moisturiser on top to lock in the benefits or mix a few drops into your moisturiser or serum to give a hydration boost.
If you’re deciding between a serum or an oil, consider your skin’s needs. If your concerns include lines, pigmentation and sagging, a serum with powerful active ingredients will do the trick. Try BioEffect EGF Serum (R1 585). If your skin needs some added pampering and hydration go for an oil like Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream All-Over Miracle Oil (R385).
