We’d rather not think of what accumulates on our hair brushes! Regular cleaning will prevent this buildup and help your tools last longer, and thankfully it’s pretty quick and easy to do.
You should aim to wash your brushes and combs once a week – but once a month will probably do as well!
- Start by removing all of the hair stuck in the bristles. You can do this with your fingers, or use a comb to rake them out.
- Next, hold the tools under warm running water to soften any product and oil buildup.
- Add a dollop of shampoo (your regular shampoo will do fine) and rub all over the bristles.
- Once they’re clean, rinse well under warm running water.
- If your buildup is very thick, you can soak the brushes in a baking soda bath. Just add half a cup to a basin of water, and leave the tools to soak in it for 15 minutes. Then repeat the washing process. (Don’t soak brushes with wooden handles or boar bristles in baking soda – rather just wash with shampoo two or three times, as baking soda can damage them)
- When they’re clean, lay the tools on a towel to air dry. Place brushes bristles down – this will help drain any excess water.
