4 Steps to aisle-worthy locks

Pre-prep is vital! Start your planning here.

“Remember, you’re the star of the show!” says Jemma Bruton, expert wedding and special occasion hairdresser and head of the hair school at Cape Town’s International Academy of Health and Science. “With a few easy planning tips, it’ll go beautifully.”

DO load up on vitamins

“Your hair fibre cells are made primarily of protein, so well before your big day start taking vitamins A, C, or E and eat foods that are rich in anti-oxidants and omega 3 fatty acids for an extra shine boost.”

DON’T forget to budget

Expect to pay anywhere from R260 at the salon and up to R2 500 for a stylist to come to you. “It costs more if your wedding is out of town, so pick a stylist close to your venue to save money,” says Jemma. “A good stylist often works with a makeup artist, so hiring a team helps cut costs.”

Do think ahead

Updos that are clipped into place are best if you want a look that lasts; if your locks don’t hold curls well, don’t even attempt wavy effects.”Set aside around 30 minutes for each bridesmaid to have her hair done and 45 minutes for yourself,” Jemma explains.

DON’T bring too much bling

For a style you’ll still love in 20 years’ time, don’t go overboard. Stick to one accent piece or a few small ones. “Think gorgeous, not gaudy.”
