Need a lesson in lip pencils? They’re surprisingly versatile – and also woefully misunderstood. Until now!
Here are three things we bet you didn’t know about liners (and one you probably do).
1 They keep colour in place
Fact: liners give your lipstick or gloss something to actually hold on to so that the colour won’t fade or feather. It’s all about the base! A nude lip liner makes a great primer, so to speak.
2 Surprise! Lip pencils can solve pigmentation issues
Most people’s lips are two different colours. So, the trick is to find a liner that matches the deeper tone in your lips. Then, all you need to do is fill in your lighter lip before applying your lipstick – the final colour will be perfectly even.
3 They’re great for reshaping
Not all over; and not Kylie Jenner proportions! You can, however, make minor tweaks. If your feel your Cupid’s bow is too separated or your top lip is very thin, you can even things out with a pencil. Lightly trace the liner in short strokes along your natural lip line and always (we repeat: always!) reshape with a nude liner.
4 You CAN use them to create a natural look
The best tool you can have in your makeup kit is a nude liner that matches the natural tone of your mouth. You can do a great nude lip by simply filling in lips completely and topping with a clear lip gloss. Just wipe a damp cotton bud over your lips to remove excess wax before applying your gloss.
