Set against the backdrop of the ocean at The Radisson Blu in Umhlanga, The Durban Book Club Edition, in partnership with FNB, Loot, Robertson Winery, and LIFT, was an ethereal affair.
Following the successful launch of The Glamour Book Club in Cape Town, we delivered on our promise to continue the conversation around women empowerment through literature, in Durban. Curated around our fashion pillar, guests honoured the theme and showed up in their interpretation of ‘elevated brunch style - blue or white.’
Hosted by Glamour’s Features Editor, Thobeka Phanyeko, the auspicious occasion fused literature, fashion and art, allowing guests to revel in the moment and tap into their creativity. The event kicked off on an inspirational note as Psychologist and Author of The Stylish Psychologist, Shameema Siddique opened up about her creative process, and shared her perspective on women empowerment, the concept of time, manifestation, the role of literature in society, and encouraged women to tap into their feminine energy.
The vibrant author further noted the significance of the number 11 as the event took place on the 11th of the 11th month, and was scheduled to start at 11am. In the world of numerology, the 1111 angel number is said to signal that our guardian angel is particularly close and wants us to focus on positive thoughts.
True to the moment, the exciting line-up included a sip& paint with renowned artist, Collin Sabapathy, a Q&A with businesswoman and reality TV star, Nonku Williams, and a financial wellness check-in with Tax Specialist, Natasha Lorde. Guests were also treated to a scrumptious menu paired with their preferred wine, courtesy of Robertson Winery.
Reflecting on this momentous day, Glamour Book Club member, Yashoda Singh says, “the Glamour Magazine Durban Book Club Event was an absolute delight, radiating with positivity, shared insights, and an infectious spirit of camaraderie. Witnessing a group of like-minded women gather to discuss, share, and sprinkle each other with gems of wisdom warmed my heart. The event soared to new heights as Shameema Siddique graced the stage, weaving tales from her captivating work, The Stylish Psychologist. Siddique's storytelling not only gave us a peek into the delightful tapestry of her book but also sparked lively conversations among the audience. The presence of the book added a special touch, enhancing our overall experience.”
About the fashion meets art moment, she affirms that it injected a burst of creativity into the mix, “this hands-on activity brought a playful dimension to the book club, fostering friendships as we collectively unleashed our artistic flair. The fusion of intellectual stimulation and artistic expression made the day a jubilant celebration.”
The powerful space also invited the like-minded women to bond over their love for literature, and share their stories. Joy was the order of the day, and the esteemed guests walked away with food for thought, unforgettable memories, a signed copy of The Stylish Psychologist, and self-care goodie bags courtesy of Bacher and Co, Skin Republic, Environ, Soft Lips, O.P.I, and Cosmetix SA.
