Flashback Friday: A look inside the launch of the Glamour Book Club

Glamour South Africa launched its first ever Book Club at the Taj Hotel in Cape Town on the 19th of August. Hosted by Glamour’s Features Editor, Thobeka Phanyeko, the auspicious occasion is one for the books.

Launched during Women’s Month, in partnership with FNB, Loot, Valdo Prosecco and Victoria gin, the Glamour Book Club brought together avid readers in an intimate setting at the Taj Hotel in Cape Town. The venue was transformed into a book lovers dream, inviting guests to lean in and explore. Catrice was on standby with a make-up touch up station to ensure that the ladies were picture ready for the pink carpet.

Like-minded women showed up and revelled in the safe space, and connected over good music, scrumptious treats, gin and champagne courtesy of Victoria Gin and Valdo Prosecco.

Hosted by Glamour’s Feature Editor, Thobeka Phanyeko who is the founder of this empowering initiative, she says the intimate launch exceeded her expectations. “I am thrilled with the turnout and optimistic about the future of the Glamour Book Club. Another event highlight was the inspirational line-up of speakers including Intergrative Nutrition Health Coach, Certified Meditation Practitioner, and Founder of Melissa Lainn Wellness, Melissa Lainn, Human Behaviour Specialist, Natalie Louw, Anthropologist & Author of the Soft Life, Lebohang Masango, Founder of Soji skincare products, Sebastine Pepler, and Business Development Head for SME Funding, Palesa Mabasa.

Guests were also afforded the opportunity to engage Lebohang Masango who shared her take on literature in the context of women empowerment, and expressed her sentiments on being a certified member of the Glamour Book Club. The articulate author also unpacked the creative process behind her offering, The Soft Life, encouraging women to raise the bar and own their lifestyle choices.

Book Club members walked away with signed copies of her book, self-care goodie bags, life-changing nuggets, a sense of community and memories that’ll last a lifetime.
