Zoliswa Mbadu
Zoliswa Mbadu, famously known as ‘Zolfreckles’ is Fashion Designer and Stylist who grew up eMlazi, a township on the east coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal. At the age of 13 her family moved to Johannesburg where she lived between the two cities and finally settled to complete her high school career at the National School of The Arts in Braamfontein Johannesburg.
She strongly believes in the HMD Global campaign tagline ‘It’s on Waya Waya’ and embodies this statement saying that for her, her hustle never stops as she is constantly growing, evolving and moving. “Procrastination is not even a word in my vocabulary, I have the same number of hours in a day as Beyoncé, I have to make the best of every single one”.
An esteemed multi tasker she has learnt to prioritise her tasks and manage her time well using her Google Assistant on her Nokia device – from scheduling tasks and to-dos, to playing her favourite playlist.
She is an influencer and being online and connected is important for her to stay abreast of the latest trends, capture the perfect pictures for her platforms and have a phone with a long-lasting battery life that will see her through her busiest days.
“It is important, now more than ever, for one to be active on social media, because that is the fastest and most convenient way to reach your audience. So, while you cannot physically connect with your most important clients, fans or followers, channel your passion point and expertise into the digital space to create a platform to engage where they are.”
Collaborating with local and international brands are just a few of the achievements that she is most proud of. “I never take any opportunity for granted, I maintain my professionalism always and put my best foot forward in all my work.” A fashion forward muse and powerhouse, she believes in always finding a way to balance to your work and time to wind down and relax.
“You need to work hard and play hard” is a mantra she carries with her as she navigates her career and what it means to her to be a Nokia ambassador.
Bomzi Lekgoro is a celebrity hairstylist, born and raised in Orlando Soweto, while she now lives with her family in Orange Farm. Fluent in four South African languages she attended Jim Fouche Primary and RW Fick Secondary school and later went on to pursue a tertiary career at Sedibeng college where her love for all things hair was born.
For her, “It’s on Waya Waya” means that the journey continues, and that life does not have to stop. It’s being motivated and constantly finding the drive to service people by making them look good and feel great about themselves. “My work makes people feel confident, and I love that the same feeling of confidence lasts and lingers in me too”.
Bomzi believes that success and striving for it means having a lot of discipline and remembering why you are doing what you are doing. Her personal mantra being that one should always remember the bigger picture and constantly create opportunities for themselves through adapting and learning.
She always strives to perfect her skills through research and trend watching and says that the perfect place to kick off your career is on social media. “The shift to digital also creates an opportunity to enhance your skills, be it by learning how to do braids or cutting hair in my industry, or how to create grow your own veggie garden – there is so much information out there that could enrich your life (personally and professionally)”
Her most prized achievement to date was receiving recognition as an upcoming hairstylist from a global authority. Bomzi holds her family close to her heart and she also celebrates the small wins in her home like teaching her parents the significance of video calling and interacting digitally with friends and family. “I love teaching my parents about the joys of travelling the world without leaving the comfort of your home.
I want them to see and experience different things and my Nokia allows me to do that”. While raising her daughter she is always reminded that everything that is happening around her has a purpose and of all the things she can achieve in life, being her daughter greatest role model will always be the greatest one.
