Wedding dress first

Most brides spend months searching for or designing their perfect wedding dress and it’s essential that the jewellery worn on the day matches the style of the dress. It’s always a good idea to have your dress first and plan your accessories second. Whether you opted for a contemporary look or a more vintage-inspired aesthetic, be sure to choose jewellery in a matching style for a cohesive and elegant look.

Match your metals

It’s not only the style of the jewellery that is important, the metal colour is too. For a harmonious look, it’s a good idea to keep the metal-colour the same across each jewellery piece. Also, consider the colour tones of your dress and carry these through to your jewellery. If you’ve chosen a pure-white dress, the most complimentary metal colours are silver, white gold or platinum.  If your dress is more ivory or champagne in colour, then yellow or rose gold accessories are the way to go.

Less is more

The last thing you want on your wedding day is to over-clutter your look.  Think about the neckline of your dress and also how your hair will be styled and then decide on what your key accessories will be. If you will be wearing your hair up, consider wearing statement earrings. If your hair will be flowing and loose, it might be better to have a striking necklace, bracelet or cuff as your showpiece.

Stay true to you

Your complete bridal look should embody the true you and this applies to your jewellery too. Make sure you stay true to your personality and style when choosing your jewellery and select pieces that you will not only enjoy on the day but that you will take pleasure in wearing over and over again.

Be budget-wise

Budgeting for a wedding is tough, but it’s important that you spend your money in areas that matter most to you. If you dream of having a piece of fine jewellery for the big day then be sure to keep this budget aside early on. Even if you don’t know what exactly you want, do some research on what your dream item may cost and budget accordingly. If your budget is tight, consider keeping your jewellery minimal, but invest in items that can become heirlooms. That way your money will be well-spent on something that you can enjoy for decades to come.
