Universal TV welcomed guests at an exclusive preview screening event to celebrate brand-new series, Wild Cards

Universal TV hosted a private screening and intimate brunch at the African Pride Hotel at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg. Guests got to preview the opening episode of the new ten-part series, Wild Cards, which will air on Universal TV every Tuesday from 3 September until 29 October 2024.

In the comedy-drama series, Wild Cards, demoted detective Cole Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti) and scammer Max Mitchell (Vanessa Morgan from Riverdale) need to solve a crime. If they can work together, Ellis may become a detective again, and Max will stay out of jail.

Actress, presenter, author, and entrepreneur Leandie du Randt performed the role of MC, as she entertained guests with her energetic and personable demeanour. An array of other well-known names also attended the event, including content creators: Adre Muller, Buntu Petse, Danny Painter, Jo Judnick-Wilson, Marcelle Gordon, Margo Fargo, Mel Ramjee, and Tansey Coetzee.

The themes of the show set the overarching tone for the morning, as the venue was adorned with playful brand activations, experiences, and photo opportunities that drew inspiration from Wild Cards. Guests adhered to the red dress code and were served a show-inspired welcome drink on arrival, before being seated for the exclusive preview screening.

Leandie du Randt introduced the screening by showcasing promo reels and trailers, remarking on how Universal TV’s upcoming programming slate for September is: “enthralling, exciting, and totally worth staying home for!” Following this, guests took to their seats for a brunch where they were invited to participate in some problem-solving and detective games, with unique prizes provided by the channel and DStv Rewards. The morning rounded off with guests receiving gift bags filled with promotional items.

Wild Cards forms part of Universal TV’s September multi-show programming stunt, spotlighting an exciting lineup of new shows and seasons coming to Africa. This includes: NCIS: Sydney (Season 1), Chicago Med (Season 7), S.W.A.T. (Season 6), as well as some continuing titles: Tribal (Season 2), Chicago P.D. (Season 10), S.W.A.T. (Season 5), and Magnum P.I. (Season 3).
