The taste of summer in the Robertson Wine Valley is sweet and so are the luxury accommodation options this popular location has to offer.
The Mother City is blessed with a variety of wine estates and farms including Constantia, Franschhoek and the Stellenbosch Winelands. The Robertson wine valley is packed with hidden gems and unique experiences we may have been overlooking.
Robertson has world class wine estates that offer the triple threat of the Cape Town to-do list of perfect summer activities, wine tasting, wine blending and wine bottling. In addition, and perhaps more important, the small town has some of the most luxurious accommodation options, some are exclusive, secret valley hideouts and others are stunning guest houses that offer panoramic views of the surrounding nature.
Below are two luxurious guest houses where we recently indulged our senses while on a #TastesOfSummer Robertson Valley tour. Be sure to check them out when you’re in the neighbourhood.
theLAB
This otherworldly tech-forward guesthouse is almost awkwardly situated in Klaasvoogds, a region between the Robertson Winelands and Ashton, a strange place for accommodation heavily reliant on electricity and technology. However, you soon realise the brilliance behind the idea as you check-in and realise that you get to experience the comforts of home, of the city, in the great outdoors.
The lodging is made up of lavish carbon neutral through solar-powered units and has quirky solar electric bikes and vehicles for guests to enjoy at their leisure, emphasising theLAB’s eco-focused way of life. With a great menu featuring meals prepared with the freshest produce, which is most likely from their own vegetable garden, as well as a perfect wine list to enjoy in the most beautiful settings, theLAB should definitely be on your list of rest stops when in Robertson.
Lord’s Wine Estate
Located in the McGregor Mountains, you will find the family-run Lord’s Wine Estate, a perfect fit for those with more discerning tastes and the craving for the isolation nature brings. Besides their legendary Shiraz, what makes Lord’s unique is its welcoming oasis of lush green lawns, mountainous views and indigenous fynbos.
Lord's Wine Estate has two elegantly decorated, ground-floor apartments furnished with a comfortable queen-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with a shower.
A few kilometres from Lord's Wine Estate, Lord's Guest Lodge. The lodge offers B&B rooms and cottages with breath-taking panoramic views of their 500 metre above sea level vineyards.
Robertson definitely has more to offer than sumptuous meals and matching wines – go ahead and enjoy the experience.
