Some women spend loads of time day-dreaming about the perfect engagement ring… But for some of us, it’s not that simple. There are SO many different designs to choose from, making the selection process exciting but confusing at the same time! So how do you decide which shape diamond suits you best?
Leigh Jasmin, Jewellery Merchandiser for Arthur Kaplan, has given us the lowdown on diamond cuts to help you select the engagement ring that’s right for you. PS: We suggest you casually leave this article open on your man’s computer… Maybe with the cursor over the shape you want?
1 Round brilliant cut
Many women prefer the traditional round brilliant cut diamond because its shape shows off the many reflecting facets of the stone, making it the most visually brilliant! A round diamond gives you more flexibility in terms of balancing the cut, colour and clarity grades while still giving you the brilliance that you expect from a diamond, ensuring timeless, romantic appeal.
2 Fancy cut
As the name suggests, fancy cut diamonds have a striking, unusual or exotic shape. Some women prefer a modern looking engagement ring, and fancy cuts are the perfect choice because of their striking, angular shapes. These shapes demand attention as they really are different to the traditional round cut.
3 Princess cut
The most sought-after fancy cut diamond for engagement rings is the princess cut diamond. It’s a good choice because it works with almost any style of ring. Of all the square cuts, the princess cut diamond offers the most magnificent appearance.
3 Oval cut
If you like the look of a round diamond, but want something a little bit different, the oval cut is a great option for you. Oval #diamonds have the added advantage of an elongated shape, which can create the illusion of greater size.
4 Pear shape cut
Pear cut diamonds are a combination of a round and a marquise shape, with a tapered point on one end. The diamond is worn with the narrow end pointing toward the hand, giving the added benefit of making fingers appear longer and slimmer. Because of their petal-like appearance, they are seen as a symbol of romance and are used in many designs where the focus is a floral look.
5 Cushion cut
If you’re a romantic at heart, a cushion cut diamond will emulate your personality perfectly. These diamonds have softer, rounded edges giving them a vintage look which echoes the romance seen throughout the ages.
