Hilton Launches Canopy in the Mother City: A Fresh Take on Cape Town Hospitality

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hilton’s brand-new Canopy by Hilton in Cape Town’s iconic Longkloof neighbourhood, and I have to say—it was an amazing experience. This highly anticipated property offers the perfect blend of local charm and Hilton’s renowned standards, and it’s already making a mark on the city’s hospitality scene.

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the warm Zulu words Wamkelekile ekhaya, meaning “welcome home.” That simple greeting set the tone for my entire stay. Whether interacting with the friendly staff at reception or the attentive waiters at the restaurant, I always felt like I was right where I was meant to be. The hotel’s central location makes it a great spot for both business and leisure. Waking up to the stunning views of Table Mountain and the peaceful sounds of birds chirping really set the stage for a relaxing day. If you’re working remotely, the hotel has thought of everything. There’s a seamless transition from bed to desk, and the environment is conducive to getting things done.

Speaking of starting the day, the breakfast spread at Canopy is not to be missed. The menu is full of freshly prepared options that will leave you satisfied, whether you’re looking for something light or hearty. Personally, I couldn’t get enough of the pancakes—they were an absolute treat. Plus, the décor throughout the hotel is striking, with vibrant artwork and unique wallpapers that celebrate Cape Town’s creative energy. The canopy theme is cleverly incorporated into the design, bringing a touch of nature and style into every corner.

Mercia Horn, the new General Manager of Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof, is leading this exciting venture. With over 20 years of experience in hospitality, Mercia is perfectly positioned to infuse local culture and energy into the hotel. As a resident of the city, she has a special connection to it, and her passion for delivering world-class guest experiences is evident in every detail. “I’m incredibly honoured to lead this team in my hometown,” Mercia says. “Canopy by Hilton is more than just a hotel; it’s a place where guests and locals alike can experience authentic Cape Town.”

Inside, the hotel embraces Cape Town’s diverse cultural heritage, with bespoke art installations and modern design elements that reflect the city’s creative spirit. The restaurant, led by a renowned South African chef, offers bold takes on traditional flavours—definitely worth indulging in. And the location is perfect for exploring Cape Town, with easy access to Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront, and the lively streets of Kloof and Bree.

Andreas Lackner, Vice President of Operations for Hilton Africa and the Indian Ocean, expressed his excitement about the new hotel, saying, “Mercia’s leadership and experience will make Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof a standout in the region. This hotel reflects Hilton’s commitment to creating authentic, locally inspired stays.”

I truly had an incredible time at Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof, and I can’t wait to return. Whether you’re in town for work, relaxation, or a little bit of both, this hotel offers a refreshing take on Cape Town hospitality that I’m sure you’ll love just as much as I did.
