Oh my God, it's…The Idol? In every single category? JKJK, I don't even think it's eligible until next year. No, the 2023 Emmy nominations are, unsurprisingly, dominated by The White Lotus and Succession, but there's still room for other shows to make an impact!
FX's stressful, chaotic, beautiful Chicago-based restaurant series The Bear received nominations for its first season, including best comedy series, as well as nominations across all acting categories. Due to a summer release, the second season won't be eligible for Emmys until next year.
A (welcome) surprise was a nomination for James Marsden for his glorious performance as himself on Jury Duty. Abbott Elementary, an awards season darling only two seasons in, was nominated in major comedy categories, including an outstanding lead actress in a comedy series nom for Quinta Brunson.
It's gonna be a tough race. I mean, there have just been so many good shows recently. Obviously we were obsessed with Bridgerton and The White Lotus and Bad Sisters, but Atlanta came to an end, as did Dead to Me, and Hacks had us enthralled too!
The big question: Will House of the Dragon dominate the way Game of Thrones did? The show is surely a hit, but will it capture the same runaway success as its predecessor? On the other hand, does anyone even remember Rings of Power, let alone see it as a contender? For hair a makeup maybe.
One thing we'll definitely be tuning in for is Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez copresenting an award. Not that that's been announced or anything, but I can feel it in the air. It's gonna happen and it's gotta happen.
