Let’s face it, we’ve all dreamt of a white Christmas at some point in our lives…building a snowman, laughing about, carefree in the presence of loved ones.
This dream probably included Santa and his elves, and no we’re not ‘The Grinch’ so we’re not about to steal Christmas. On the contrary, we’re here to affirm that it’s possible, sans Santa of course!
If you’re after a winter wonderland this Christmas, then the French Alps in Tignes is where you’ll find joy. When exchanging summer in SA for a European Winter, it’s hard to imagine what to expect, especially when the destination is a snow resort. The friendly Club Med team looped us in on what to wear to ensure that we were safe and warm while enjoying the slopes. The first stop therefore, was Cape Union Mart to get kitted for the snow adventure. Think waterproof jacket, pants and boots but make it cute. In just a few hours, the dream was becoming a reality when we made our way to the airport. The experience was surreal as we took to the skies, courtesy of Air France.
We spent 11 hours in the air, before landing in Paris where we flew to Geneva and enjoyed a scenic 4-hour drive to the French Alps. Seeing snow for the first time was something out of this world, you’d have to see it to believe it! We arrived in the evening and checked into the Club Med Tignes Resort ahead of the official opening.
The all-inclusive snow resort rests amongst a group of villages that form a high-altitude ski resort in the French Alps. Waking up to breathtaking views of the slopes affirmed that we were actually in Tignes. Seeing the village come alive as the day progressed stirred up feelings of excitement and an eagerness to lean into the day.
There was lots to explore as we had an exciting line-up of activities including skiing, snowboarding, swimming in a heated pool and immersing ourselves in the Tignes way of life. The resort also boasts a state of the art fitness centre and spa. It’s true that time flies when you’re having fun…before we knew it; it was time to say au revoir. In our case, it’s definitely not goodbye it’s later!
If this Christmas, your heart longs to reconnect with your childhood idea of Christmas, head to the Club Med Tignes. After all, tis’ the season to be jolly!
