Glamour: What does Women's Month mean to you?
Madeleine: I am all for Girl power! For me, we celebrate all women’s contributions to society, culture and history.
Glamour: Why is it important to celebrate the women of SA?
Madeleine: We need to reflect on the courage of women in South Africa, and celebrate the efforts and bravery of women in past generations who paved the way for all the opportunities we have today!
Glamour: The Cotton Company is growing and championing the conversation around sustainability, what's your take?
Madeleine: Personally, I believe everyone has the ability to make a difference in the world we call home. Whether big or small, we can all contribute towards a more sustainable life. Whether it’s changing your lightbulb to a more energy efficient one. or being more aware of the products you buy. The easiest way to start…is to start with intent.
Glamour: What would you attribute your success to?
Madeleine: I saw this saying: “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” It is so true!! I worked super hard, made use of opportunities and surrounded myself with awesome people that I learn from every day.
Glamour: Which women are on your radar at the moment and why?
Hat Maker (Miliner), Crystal Birch - She’s got style!! and she makes me smile. Her interview with Seth Shezi is so inspirational! Please go and listen to Breaking Eggs with Seth Shezi.
Photographer and writer, Emma Jude Jackson - I’ve been following her work for a long time and felt like a proud ’tannie' when she landed the front cover of Conde Nast Traveler US May/June 2022.
Artist, Alice Toich - I want one of her paintings! She is so talented and so pretty.
Glamour: What are your plans for Women's Day?
Madeleine: It’s my sister, Ingrid’s, birthday on 9 August. Every year we spend the day together and it’s incredibly special! Last year we stayed at the Lady in Pink, Mount Nelson, and this year we will be doing an exquisite lunch. Follow us on Instagram to find out where…@thecottoncompany.
Glamour: What's your message to women in business?
Madeleine: Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally, it comes from what you do consistently. Celebrate small wins and take time for yourself.
