It all started when the Mqhele brothers rescued Nkosana’s wife, Zandile from prison. Viewers were happy about the reunion but still had a lot of questions…like who would trade their freedom for a life behind bars? And most importantly why?
Lerato Mvelase who plays Zandile 2.0 on The Wife is no stranger to our screens. If you’ve been following her career, you’ll recognize her from the popular SABC 1 drama series Home Affairs, where she portrayed the character of Katlego from 2005-2009. Her conviction and truthful interpretation of the character earned her s spot in the hearts of South Africans across generations. The multi-talented star also tackled the character of Avery Shrug; in the musical production ‘The Color Purple’ which was staged at the Joburg Theatre in 2018. Giving a stellar performance, which captured the attention of theatregoers across the country, receiving raving reviews. Fast forward to the present, her character, Prisoner 47735 seems to have gotten a raw deal. A picture of a selfless and desperate woman emerges as she navigates life behind bars. The real Zandile on the other hand, seems to be settling into her new life in the Zulu home. The stakes are high and if you’re also wondering if the real Zandile will ever stand up? All we can say at this point is, it won’t be easy considering how layered the situation is. In the interim, stay tuned to find out.
