GLAMOUR Beauty Editor, Jese says farewell

As I prepare to bid farewell to this cherished chapter of my life, my heart swells with gratitude for those who have poured their love, wisdom and support into every facet of the person I’ve become.

My parents

My mom and dad are very much like the sun and the moon – distinct, yet both illuminating my path. From my dad, I’ve inherited a fierce sense of leadership and an unyielding belief that no dream is too big and no goal too far. Whether it was encouraging me to chase after my ambitions or being the loudest cheerleader on the sidelines (literally), his presence has been a guiding force reminding me that I am always capable of more.

My mother is the quiet, steady compass who has taught me the value of introspection and detail. She helped me see the bigger picture and her wisdom is woven into my decisions. She has a remarkable ability to take the chaos of my thoughts and mould them into something coherent, which pushes me to grow professionally and personally. I owe so much of my logical thinking and attention to detail to her gentle, yet firm, guidance. Together, they’ve poured their unique strengths into the woman I’ve become. I am endlessly grateful to still have them by my side, supporting me at every turn.

My grandmother

My ma, as I call her, took me under her wing and loved me with a fierceness that only a grandmother could. Her home became a sanctuary, where I learned the importance of faith, not just in the abstract, but in everyday moments of life and work. She taught me how to stand firm in my beliefs, to trust god in challenging times, and to remain true to who I am.

Our late-night conversations and the wisdom she imparted over countless cups of condensed milk tea are moments I hold close to my heart. She didn’t just tell me how to be a woman of faith; she showed me through her own life, her trials, and triumphs. As she celebrates 86 years of life, I reflect on her love, her unwavering encouragement, and her relentless drive to see me become the best version of myself. I honour her today for everything she is and all she has taught me to be.

My husband

Seven years ago my now husband, cody, did something that changed my life forever. He cast out a line that led to an opportunity, an interview at Condé Nast, that would contribute to shaping my career. in those early days, little did we know that we were laying the foundation for a partnership that would support a lifetime of love, resilience and shared dreams.

When the weight of the world seemed too heavy to bear, he was there, holding my hand, reassuring me with a quiet strength that I have come to rely on. he’s prayed with me and believed in me when I struggled to believe in myself.

His unwavering support, his love that knows no bounds, and his unshakable faith in my potential have carried me. Cody has not only been my partner but also my anchor, grounding me in love when the world felt too overwhelming. my heart overflows with gratitude that words can scarcely convey. Without him, I wouldn’t be the woman I am today.
