If you’re pretty sure you’re in a relationship with your phone, you’re totally ready for the GLAMOUR Movie Club Preview of Her, the latest from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze ( Where the Wild Things Are, Being John Malkovich).
Set in the not-too-distant future, Her revolves around Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) – a lonely, antisocial tech user who’s struggling to recover from a divorce. We see him boot up an artificially intelligent personal assistant (think The Big Bang Theory’s Siri in 10 years’ time), called Samantha, voiced by our favourite Scarlett Johansson.
It doesn’t take long for Theodore to fall head over heels for Samantha, and if the trailer is anything to go by, she might have her own digital feelings for him, too.
Her is a film for a modern audience: it’s enthralling, weird, fun, quirky and beautiful, and we can’t help but relate (how many texts have you sent into cyberspace today?).
