Media sensation Peace Hyde is a force to be reckoned with. The award-winning journalist, producer, entrepreneur, and activist, has a passion for telling African stories, and showcasing our rich heritage. She shares the female influences who helped her along the way.
My Mother
My mother is the most powerful, wise, resilient, focused and bravest woman I know. I am constantly inspired by her strength of character and her dedication to her family. She raised my siblings and I and managed to provide us with the very best care, education, love and quality of life that any child could wish for. I can only wish I am half the woman she is when I become a parent.
Folorunsho Alakija
As Africa’s wealthiest woman, with a net worth of about $2 billion, she is a true definition of a female powerhouse. Not only is she one of the hardest working and resilient women I know, but she is also a fiercely faith-driven person and someone who has been an invaluable teacher to me over the years. her passion for her family, philanthrop and the work of god is something that has taught me humility and the value of building generational wealth. She is a true inspiration to myself and so many women all over the world.
My Best Friends
My girlfriends from secondary school have been a pillar of strength for me for the past 20 years. As someone who relocated from london to the african continent, it can be very difficult being away from home, family and your comfort zone. having my two best friends, my biggest cheerleaders, has been amazing. they are like an anchor who are always a phone call away. They are my source of strength and they keep me grounded. They say you can’t choose your family but you can choose your friends, but I am grateful that these friends have become family.
Shonda Rhimes
After creating and executive producing the first Netflix Africa unscripted original, Young, Famous and African, I have a new found respect for the content powerhouse that is Shonda rhimes, who has been responsible for creating some of the most celebrated hit tv shows of our time. From Bridgerton to Greys Anatomy and Scandal, Shonda has consistently been at the helm of creativity and innovation when it comes to content creation and I am inspired by her journey of becoming one of the top content creators of the world.
The Women of Young, Famous and African
These women are some of the most exceptional talent I have ever worked with and their authenticity and larger-than-life personalities are something that I am absolutely in awe of. Annie, Khanyi, Zari, Kayleigh and Nadia are all exceptional women who believed in a simple concept and ran with it to make it a global phenomenon. They are all self-made, fearless and even though they come from humble beginnings, they have overcome seemingly impossible odds to achieve their dreams. their strength of character and dedication to their craft is nothing short of amazing.
