If celebrity dressing were an Olympic sport, Law Roach and Zendaya would take home gold every time—but some fans are not sure how to score their latest archival look.
After starting off strong in Paris in a slinky black sequined gown and a wet-hair look at the Prelude to the Olympics party at the Foundation Louis Vuitton in Paris, Zendaya went back to meta dressing, trading in her Challengers-coded tenniscore ’fits for a look that screamed 2024 Summer Olympics.
In photos and videos shared on Roach’s Instagram, Zendaya wore a vintage white romper featuring blue, green, black, yellow, and red circular trimming and pockets inspired by the famed Olympic rings. She topped the look off with a sporty bun and a laceless pair of On Cloud sneakers. “Let the games begin…. All ready for the @olympics,” Roach captioned his Instagram post.
As Law Roach explained in the rest of his Instagram caption, Zendaya was dressed in an archival look by French fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, who presented this look as part of his Olympics-inpired Sportacus collection for Paris Fashion Week in 2008.
Fans had a lot to say about the whimsical looks in the comments. “Put it back in the archives,” one user joked, while another deemed the styling “too literal. ” One fan wrote that Zendaya “missed this time” but “she’s still that girl,” receiving more than 1,200 likes. Another wrote, “LAW, PLS tel me you are in a silly goofy mood.”
However, not every response was negative. “Olympics but make it FASHION 😍,” one fan account praised, while one follower argued that the ’fit was “chic, comfortable, legendary,” adding, “The girls that get it, get it, and the girls that don’t, don’t.”
Personally, I’m a girl that gets it—and while I prefer the romper with sneakers and minimal styling à la Roach, I kind of wish they’d kept the matching Olympic Ring bangles.
Of course, Roach and Zendaya know best.
