What ignited your passion for fashion?
My coworker and husband (boyfriend at the time) we work together. So they told me I needed to do something outside of work and they both suggested Fashion Blogging. I wasn’t really into the idea but I came around and we started shooting in Downtown Harare and that was our thing. People responded well and here we are.
How do you come up with your outfits?
I mostly follow accounts that inspire me. If I have an event or a photoshoot I go with the mood I am in. I remember the pieces I have and put them together. Also when I shop I try buy stuff that compliments what I already have! I’m into street style and earthly looks so I play around with that.
Your favourite Zimbabwean fashion brands?
My favorite fashion brands are Haus of Stone, Natai Natai, Maison DuStyle, Patch, Riso Jerradi and many others!
What changes would you love see in the Zimbabwean Fashion industry?
The changes I wish to see in the Zimbabwean Fashion Industry are people from all over the world supporting us but mostly the locals supporting the local artists. They put in so much work and due to the economy it’s usually from their own pockets to produce their products.
Chiedza share your journey as a content creator?
My journey as a content creator started as me being a fashion blogger. I ended up actually enjoying it. And it’s been such an interesting journey, pretty hard to get people to pay for content creating back in 2017-2018 but now Zimbabwe is coming around to it.
How does the Zimbabwean culture play a role in your content creation?
The Zimbabwean culture plays a significant part in my content creation, based on the fact that I’m from here and married to a Zimbabwean there are certain things a wife in the cultural sense shouldn’t do but I try by all means to think outside that box, the box being the cultural idea of what a woman should be. I dunno if that makes any sense lol.
What are the challenges and opportunities you face being a content creator in Zimbabwe?
The challenges that come with being a content creator in Zimbabwe are that the industry doesn’t quite understand what we are and why we exist yet. So I suppose I am trying to show them the value of content creation and how much reach you get just by using social media. Some companies are not for it yet but we’re all working very hard to get them to understand the value. The opportunities are getting work to do while making money in a home setting, never having to pay for an office ...etc I think these are the main ones for me. To be honest the economic situation in Zimbabwe is difficult to explain because I quite don’t understand fully, but social media had definitely made it easy to make money from home and Covid-19 also being a factor has done that too.
Any recent collaborations you did?
My recent collaboration was with Castle Lite Zimbabwe. They created some sneakers with a company called Bathu from South Africa for a campaign and I was a part of the influencer line up.
Your street style lives rent free in our heads, what inspired that?
My street style came with I suppose shooting mainly in the city because that’s how I started. My husband loves the city of Harare and he wanted to show the parts that aren’t seen as cool or nicely represented by us as a people. And that’s basically how it became street style haha nothing inspirational there just pure coincidence lol.
Who take your cool street style photos?
My husband @zashcraft takes all my street style photos and all others too!
Drop your glistening skin routine sis!
I don’t have anything major that I use to be honest with you. I just clean my face twice a day obviously during my morning bath and at the end of the day. I use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly in winter at nights and Johnson and Johnson baby lotion for the day. To clean my skin I do have some masks that I use maybe twice a month but nothing deep. My mother and father both have amazing skin and I have never really had trouble with it, that might be it too. Oh and I workout and drink loads of water lol I guess what to take from this answer is drink the water and workout kids lol
What’s your favourite tourist place in Zimbabwe?
That’s a hard question! I love all of Zimbabwe! But my husband and I want to retire in Bvumba because Manicaland wins the cup! It’s so peaceful and the landscapes the mountains the weather! Everything I have ever loved. I am not a fan of the heat so it’s perfect lol
