In part 2 of our interview with Jessica Mbangeni, we talk kids, fashion, and body positivity.
Your body positivity is amazing. Have you always had that? How important is it for women to love the body they are in?
I have always been body positive because I was brought to be that way. There are things that I will never change in my body because my mother taught me at an early age that all the parts of my body are unique. So I should not live according to the revolving standards of this world. I am what I eat and I am what I think. As women, we should nourish our bodies because this is the gift of life that identifies our gender. We need to affirm greatness toward our bodies and live a holistic life.
Your outfits are quite elaborate and eye-catching, what inspires you when you are putting your looks together?
I see visions and dreams of the concepts of my outfits. I’m inspired by royalty and beyond its divinity. I dress up to heal not to kill.
Away from the limelight, what would we find Jessica doing on a normal day? How do you like to unwind?
I love spending time with my family. I like visiting the zoo, laughing and telling folk stories to my children. I also enjoy shopping and dining in restaurants and taking on new adventures with my family.
If you could say something to young women about self-love and body love what would it be?
You are the only person who is responsible for your life. You are entitled to yourself only. Be smart and be good to yourself. Fat is a toxin that triggers bitterness and diseases that result in immature death. Never succumb to the term “fat and fabulous”. Work on your body even when you are slim and slender. You are the CEO of your existence. Take charge.
What’s your dream for yourself?
My dream is to travel with my children and experience more of the world.
