WATCH: A final send off for Riky Rick

South Africa is still reeling from the news of rapper Riky Rick’s passing.

The beloved rapper, who’s real name is Rikhado Muziwendlovu Chifaro Makhado, died tragically on Wednesday 23 March. The news first broke on Instagram and was later confirmed by multiple sources and news outlets, sparking an outpouring of shock, dismay and anguish from the local and international hip-hop community.

In a statement released by the Makhado family, Riky is described as being “deeply loved by his family, friends and the entire entertainment industry.”

“His love for family, friends and community is well known. Riky’s nurturing and developing of young musical talent is well documented, and will forever be remembered.”

The award-winner rapper and music producer was not only a talented musician but a philanthropist and a style icon. During his short time in the industry, he managed to scoop prestigious awards including Best Hit Single Award at the Metro FM Awards in 2017, and Best Male Artist, and Album of The Year at the SA Hip Hop Awards in 2018.

Riky will be remembered for his style, music and immense contribution to the culture.

His funeral will be held at a private ceremony in Johannesburg today. It is due to begin at 11am. You can watch the live-stream of the funeral, here:

On Friday 4 March 2022, close friends, family and selected media will gather for a special Tribute Celebration in honour of his life and legacy. The event will also be live-streamed and can be watched on YouTube. It will begin at 2pm.
