International Emmy-Award nominated actress Thuso Mbedu is set to star alongside award-winning Viola Davis, in the upcoming film “The Woman King.”
This comes two weeks before Mbedu is set to make a debut on Amazon Prime Video's Underground Railroad.
American website the Deadline, reports that the Woman King tells a story of a general of an all-female military unit, and her daughter, who together fight the French and neighbouring tribes who enslave their people, and threaten to destroy everything they've lived for.
Davis and Julius Tennon of JuVee Productions have applauded the South African actress, saying they were “mesmerised by Thuso” and thought she was perfect for the project.
“The depth and complexity of emotional life, her authentic beauty, and regalness is potent. We were mesmerised by Thuso Mbedu.
“We wanted Woman King / Nawi to be the vehicle to introduce her on the big screen,” the duo was quoted as saying in the report.
Thuso has confirmed the news on Instagram, sharing her excitement over working alongside Viola.
“Those who know, know. Let’s do it! What an honour!," she said.
Meanwhile, the star trended on social media platforms with several other A-listers congratulating her on the new role.
