Solange Knowles was reportedly “yelling” at anyone who got close to Jay Z at the Met Gala after-party last week, before she physically attacked the rapper for telling her to calm down.
The 27-year-old singer physically attacked her brother-in-law in an elevator at the bash at The Standard Hotel in New York on May 5 but, prior to lashing out at him, she was allegedly warning women to stay away from him.
A source told Us Magazine: “Solange was yelling that anyone who gets close to Jay has to be warned and deal with her as a sister.”
The violent altercation between Jay and Solange began to escalate after the rapper and his wife Beyoncé – who have two-year-old daughter Blue Ivy together – tried to get the brunette beauty to leave the party
A second insider said: “Jay said something small to her along the lines of, ‘You are out of line.’ Solange was being a loudmouth and snapped at Jay trying to calm her down and get her out of there.”
Solange was caught on CCTV kicking and clawing the rapper, 44, before she stormed out of the venue with a disgruntled expression on her face.
Beyoncé followed her sibling out and joined her in an awaiting car, while Jay – whose real name is Shawn Carter – opted to travel alone.
The insider explained: “Bey was just trying to keep the peace and get Solange home, which is why she went with Solange in the car. Both Bey and Jay were trying to handle the situation. Solange has been that way before, and Jay and Bey just wanted to get her out of there and home before she really caused a ruckus.”
It’s also been reported that she lashed out at Jay Z because he has failed to help boost her career and reneged on repeated promises to work with her in the studio.
A source told the MailOnline: “Solange is so angry because Jay Z promised to give her more help with her career and when she brought it up again the night of the gala, he told her he just didn’t have the time to work with her in the studio. He hasn’t kept his promise to help her. Jay keeps telling her to give him some time and he will sit down and write with her and then get her into the studio but he hasn’t done it yet.”
Beyoncé and Jay Z are however unfazed by Solange’s tantrum in the lift because they are “used to” her explosive ways.
A source told Us Weekly magazine: “Solange has flipped her lid like that before. She is genuinely a sweet and nice person but she also keeps s**t real. She can take a small thing and it triggers her.
“This is not the first time this has happened. That’s why Bey and Jay were so calm. They are used to this from Solange. It has definitely happened before.”
A source said: “It is a testament to Beyonce’s calm nature how she kept back and played the peacekeeper here. She is so calm and always the peacekeeper.”
However, an onlooker at the Met Gala claimed the singer didn’t seem like herself throughout the evening.
The source said: “She wasn’t smiling, was hardly with Jay, she was off with Solange the whole time.”
