Selena Gomez is opening up about her relationship with Benny Blanco — and her future family plans.
In a new interview with Time about the massive success of her beauty brand Rare Beauty, as well as projects like Only Murders in the Building, Gomez shared that before her longtime friendship with the producer turned romantic, she was planning on adopting a child. The star revealed that she'd been single for five years and had gotten used to it. “A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone,” Gomez told the publication. “Then I kind of accepted it.” She decided that if she hadn't met anyone by the time she turned 35, she'd adopt. (Gomez will turn 32 in July.)
Before they began dating in mid-2023, Gomez shared that she asked Blanco if he could set her up with a friend, but she realized it was Blanco she wanted to be with. “It just happens when you least expect it,” she said.
Gomez also touched on the ongoing conversation about her relationship with Blanco and the public's reaction to their romance. "I know what people can do to people I love," Gomez explained. “My own fans, who I adore and feel like have shaped who I am, will say the most hurtful things to me about how I live my life.” However, Blanco is unbothered. "He has the strength in him that none of that noise fazes him." (Gomez has defended their relationship to fans; in late 2023, she responded to a comment saying, “If you actually care about me. [sic] This is my happiest. If you don't feel free to say whatever you want. But I will never allow your words to guide my life. Ever. I'm done. If you can't accept me at my happiest then don't be in y [sic] life at all.”)
Blanco himself has spoken about his desire to start a family with his girlfriend. When visiting the Howard Stern Show, Stern said he “predicted marriage” for the two, and Blanco agreed. He also said he really wants to have kids with her, calling it his “next goal on the box" of life plans. “I have a lot of God kids; I've got a ton of nephews. It's my thing, I love being around kids!”
Selena Gomez told Time that while she can't predict what's to come, she feels secure in her relationship. “I just cherish every moment with him,” she said. "I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that he’s not going anywhere any time soon.”
