Lady Nam as she’s famously known, is part of the crème de la crème of a star studded Beyonce’s Musical and Visual Album- Black Is King. The Port Elizabeth born star is no stranger on rubbing shoulders with international stars. She starred in movies like Madiba where she played alongside Hollywood heavyweight Laurence Fishburne and also in the US TV hit show called Black Mirror!
Black Is King film showcased African cultures in a cinematic display of colour, rhythmic sounds and dance, most importantly a portrayal of ancestral treasures in costumes and personifications.
Lady Nam noted; being handpicked and chosen for a project of this magnitude has further affirmed her belief that as a child of the soil and your dark skin magic- nothing is out of reach. She has always rallied for African women especially dark-skinned to celebrate their trueness and beauty within themselves. She has been marvelled as a queen of #DarkSkinMagic.

Lady Nam has been in the forefront and a loud voice in advocating for dark skin magic. Her family of followers, predominantly girls and young women aspire to her. The inspiring feedback she gets from her audience when they see her on TV, has compelled her to start a women’s empowerment movement called #SheSpeaksByLadyNam!
The movement encourages individuals to ‘Find Their Voice and Live in Purpose’. The fourth instalment themed ‘Business of the Arts” was a sold out; workshop style affair in Port Elizabeth in February this year which propelled the movement to global demand and reach.
The Global Citizen organization jumped on board and associated with the #SheSpeaksByLadyNam digital series which hosted the likes of fellow stars and friends –Nandi Madida and Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi , in support of the #TogetherAtHome campaign!
“The response that I have already received from young girls thanking me for being unapologetically dark-skinned on a global stage is amazing.
“Having Beyoncé afford us the opportunity and produce such an incredible story celebrating us means that every [African] girl will be able to see herself in us,” she said.
Black Is King premiered on Disney Plus on Friday and on M-Net for African viewers on Saturday 1st of August.
