The 77-year-old fashion designer – who launched his debut clothing line Polo in 1968 – is set to receive the honour for his invaluable contribution to the fashion industry at this year’s star studded event, which will take place at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 5 December in contribution with the jewellery brand Swarovski.
Speaking about the creative mastermind, chairman of the British Fashion Council (BFC), Dame Natalie Massenet, said: “Ralph Lauren is an exemplary designer and businessman. He has helped to define an era in both American and global fashion with his singular vision; I know that most of us would say he has inspired us immeasurably. He has built an outstanding legacy and I look forward to celebrating him for years to come.”
However, Ralph – who has since gone on to expand his brand and launch a womenswear range – isn’t the only one to be recognised for his influence in the fashion industry, as sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid will go head to head to be crowned International Model at the Fashion Awards 2016, alongside Kendall Jenner.
Natalie, the CEO of the BFC Caroline Rush and model Karlie Kloss announced the nominations for this year’s fashion ceremony last month, which saw her congratulate all of those who have been nominated for an accolade, and credit those in the running as an “incredible talent”.
Speaking previously, she said: “Huge congratulations to all the Fashion Awards 2016 nominees! It’s an incredible achievement and a very well-deserved recognition for their achievements this year.”
“The shortlisted nominees prove the incredible talent we are so fortunate to work with both at home and abroad. This year’s ceremony will be thrilling and I look forward to welcoming all our guests to London and to what has become one of the most-anticipated highlights of the global fashion calendar.”
Meanwhile, Jonathan Anderson will vie with Dame Vivienne Westwood and the creative mastermind and film director Tom Ford for the title of British Menswear Designer, whilst designer labels including Alexander McQueen, Burberry and Stella McCartney will compete to be crowned the Best British Brand.
