As announced on Instagram on 2 August, Lizzo will be making her long-awaited return to music with a new song called “Rumors” on 13 August 2021.
Already available to pre-save, “Rumors” will be the first release from Lizzo in over two years – following the release of her third studio album, the critically acclaimed Cuz I Love You, in April 2019, and “Blame It on Your Love,” her collab with Charli XCX, in June 2019.
Lizzo announced the single alongside what appears to be its cover art. Shot by Jora Frantzis, the picture shows Lizzo clad in a golden embellished corset (notably featuring Versace’s medusa head), fierce crystal nails, and statement gold jewelry.
The release will come just before Lizzo is slated to make her return to the stages with a multitude of festival appearances – including Bonnaroo, Global Citizen Live, and Firefly Music Festival – as well as her own headline show at Minnesota's Treasure Island Amphitheater in the US on 11 September.
Not much is yet known about “Rumors” but the song was described as “yet another smash” in a press email – and we don’t doubt it. Lizzo herself teased “Rumors” would mark the start of a new era when she shared the news, and we are more than ready.
